Getting Started With Bulk Show Actions in Cablecast 7.9

September 27, 2024

If you need to make changes to multiple Shows at once, the Bulk Actions feature can help you do this quickly and easily. This guide will show you how to use Bulk Actions to delete VOD files, delete assets, and update metadata for multiple Shows at once.

Selecting Shows

Six shows are selected and ready to have a Bulk Action applied

To select multiple Shows, click the checkbox next to each Show you want to include in the Bulk Action. You can also use the "Select All" checkbox at the top of the list to select all Shows on the current page.

In the example above, the user has selected six Shows to apply a Bulk Action to.

Configuring Bulk Actions

Once you have selected the Shows you want to change, you can click the "Bulk Actions" button at the top right of the screen to open the Bulk Actions configuration screen.

From here, you can choose the type of Bulk Action you want to perform. The available options are:

  • Bulk Cleanup Shows
    • Provides options to clear:
      • VODs
        • Disables VOD for each show and schedules the deletion of VOD related Assets. The default scheduled deletion time is 7 days.
      • Assets
        • Schedules the deletion of playback Assets for each Show. The default scheduled deletion time is 7 days.
      • Metadata
        • Performs the same actions as the "Clear Show" button on a Show's Edit page.
  • Bulk Update Metadata: Allows you to update the metadata for the selected Shows. You can change the Title, Category, Producer, and other metadata fields for all selected Shows at once.

Bulk deleting Assets/VODs is permanent!

Note that as with deleting of individual Assets or VODs, this action is permanent and cannot be undone. Please make sure that you have selected the correct items to be deleted before performing this action.

Bulk Update Metadata

If you select the "Bulk Update Metadata" option, you will see a screen like this:

To configure which metadata fields you want to update, click the "New field to update" button and select the field you want to change from the dropdown. You can then enter the new value for that field. You can add as many fields as you want to update.

Additional fields can be added by clicking the "New field to update" button again. Fields can be removed by clicking the circular red "X" button in the top right of the box for that field.

Finishing

When you are finished configuring the metadata fields you want to update, click the "Update" button to apply the changes to all selected Shows.

Depending on the number of Shows you have selected and the changes you are making, this process may take some time to complete. You will see a progress bar to show you the status of the Bulk Action.
