Cablecast Commission Guide

January 25, 2024

All new systems include commissioning/configuration assistance. The Cablecast team will help with licensing the system, making sure software is up to date and configuring your system for playback.

There are a few things you'll want to have prepared ahead of time when planning to commission your system.

Scheduling

A Cablecast Customer Success Manager (CSM) is required to activate and license your system. You should have received a link to schedule your commission with the CSM team when your order shipped.

Please make sure to schedule your appointment ahead of time as it fits with your commissions installation. If you do not see a preferred time, please reach out to support@cablecast.tv directly and we can do our best to accommodate your schedule.

Be Prepared

Cablecast does not come as a turnkey solution. Information will need to be gathered about how you want your system configured. This might include connections for input/output devices, IP addresses or routers. Here are a few things that you will need to successfully integrate Cablecast.

  • Is this a new Cablecast installation?
  • Do you need content migrated from an old Cablecast system?
  • Windows usernames and passwords
  • Teamviewer ID's (Teamviewer is installed on all Cablecast systems)
  • Each servers IP address
  • Intended I/O configuration
    • Examples include the following:
    • VIOCG 1 Out
    • VIO Stream and VIO Omni are locked at 1 in, 1 out
    • VIOLite and VIO2 server(s): 1In/1Out
    • VIO4 server: 1In/3Out
    • VIO4 server: 2In/2Out
    • VIO4+ is locked at 4 in 4 out

Note on VIOLite

The VIOLite will behave based on the licensing it is commissioned with. This allows one unit to be either a VIOLite player and Encoder, a VIOLite Omni, or a VIOLite CG unit. -A VIOLite Player and Encoder, and VIOLite Omni will have ports 1 and 2 active for Playback and Encoding - A VIOLite CG will only have a port turned on for playback per CG License purchased.

NON STANDARD Video Server intended I/O configuration

By choosing a NON STANDARD Video I/O Configuration, you are acknowledging there will be no encoding capability with the Video I/O card.

Examples include the following:

  • VIOLite and VIO2 server(s): 0In/2Out
  • VIO4 server: 0In/4Out
  • Know what your server output resolution is going to be. It is also good for the Cablecast team to know if you will be using the same resolution on all channels or if this will differ.
  • Is there a video switcher in your configuration? If so, it is good to know what make and model.
    • Will the video switcher be controlled by a serial or IP?
    • If using IP address - please be prepared to provide the IP address of the video switcher.

Additional Information

We want to make sure your Cablecast system is installed and configured properly. You can also reference our checklist of items using the form below.

Remote Access & Support

When the Cablecast team provides the license and configuration of a Cablecast system, we require remote access. We currently use Teamviewer to provide quick and remote access to Cablecast units. Please make sure to have your Teamviewer ID's ready.

Remote Support Alternatives

Security is important - we understand that some organizations may not allow Teamviewer. The Cablecast team will do our best to work with you on a tool that can be used for the commission process. NOTE: If you require alternatives to Teamviewer for ongoing support after commissioning, you may need to consider a Platinum Support Package. Click the link below for more info.

IT Blocks & Considerations

Begin working with your IT team early and often. Cablecast may require additional configuration on your network, especially if your station or entity has strict security protocols. It's best to get your IT involved so they know and understand the new system that's about to be installed on the network.

SSL

SSL adds an additional layer of security for Cablecast. Most IT and security organizations may want to enable SSL.

Cablecast Software Manual

Cablecasts software manual. This is included as part of the UI in Cablecast as well under "manual" in the left navigation pane.

Windows 10 Setup

All current Cablecast playback units ship with Windows 10. This will require configuration when the unit is first powered on. More information can be found at the article below.

Cablecast Hardware Manuals

Understanding your Cablecast equipment and what everything does is important. These hardware manuals will help you become more acclimated with your current or existing system.
