Cablecast 7.9 features several major new features to help station operators and administrators continue to improve workflows with Bulk Actions and Show Record Redesign, as well as Smart Summaries and Accessible Internet Channels. We've also added the ability to submit logs to our Support team directly through Cablecast. Read on for more information about each new feature.

Bulk Actions

The Cablecast Show Record Bulk Actions feature streamlines the process of managing multiple Show Records simultaneously, saving time and effort. This feature is particularly useful for tasks like updating metadata, assigning new producers, or deleting outdated VODs to conserve disk space.

Show Record Redesign

The Cablecast 7.9 update introduces a comprehensive redesign of the Show Record interface, enhancing usability and streamlining workflows. Key improvements include reorganizing show fields into distinct tabs for better navigation, a revamped Reels section featuring a step-by-step creation modal, intuitive drag-and-drop reordering, and a slider-based trimmer for digital files.

The VOD management tools are now consolidated within the Show Record, allowing users to handle chapters, embed links, and view logs from right within the Show Records. Additionally, the Text Tracks and Related Assets sections have been integrated directly into the Show Record, providing centralized access to file statuses, job histories, and asset management actions.

These enhancements aim to provide a more efficient and user-friendly experience for managing show records.

Smart Summaries

Cablecast’s Smart Summaries feature leverages AI technology to automatically generate concise summaries and chapter markers for Video on Demand (VOD) content, enhancing accessibility and viewer navigation. This subscription-based service requires Cablecast VOD and is configured by linking Smart Summaries to a designated Show Custom Field—defaulting to the “Comments” field, though customizable.

To activate, users navigate to a show’s Internet Video settings and enable the Smart Summary tab, where processing progress can be monitored. The feature supports both individual and bulk activation for existing or future VODs. Upon successful processing, the AI-generated summary populates the chosen Custom Field, and chapter data is integrated into the VOD player, facilitating easier content navigation. Users can resubmit summaries if needed, ensuring flexibility in content management.

Accessible Internet Channels

Cablecast 7.9 introduces Accessible Internet Channels, enhancing public-facing sites to align with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Key updates include customizable color settings with dynamic text contrast for improved readability, a redesigned show page with organized tabs, and the ability to create nested galleries for better content organization. Additional features include chapter progress indicators and a download modal for accessing .mp4 and transcript files. These enhancements aim to provide a more inclusive and user-friendly experience for all viewers.

Log Submission in Cablecast

Cablecast 7.9 introduces a streamlined log submission feature, enabling users—especially those on the Bronze support tier—to send diagnostic logs directly to the Cablecast Support team via the user interface.
