Cablecast Commission Guide

Last Updated:May 11, 2026

All new systems include commissioning and configuration assistance. The Cablecast Support team will help with licensing the system, making sure software is up to date, and configuring your system for playback.

There are a few things you'll want to have prepared ahead of time when planning to commission your system.

Scheduling

The Cablecast Support team handles all commissioning and licensing. Once your order is received and processed, a member of the Support team will reach out with information on next steps and to schedule your commissioning appointment.

If you have not heard from the Support team or need to follow up, contact support@cablecast.tv directly.

Be Prepared

Cablecast does not come as a turnkey solution. Information will need to be gathered about how you want your system configured. This might include connections for input/output devices, IP addresses, or routers. Here are a few things we will need in order to successfully integrate Cablecast:

  • Is this a new Cablecast installation?

  • Do you need content migrated from an old Cablecast system?

  • Windows usernames and passwords (if different from the factory-set credentials)

Note: New Cablecast systems ship with a factory-set Windows username and password. This information is printed on a card included in the box and on a sticker on the back of each server. It is also stored in a secure vault accessible only to authorized Cablecast Support team members. If you change your Windows credentials, make sure to save the updated information — the factory credentials will no longer apply, and if the new credentials are lost, a server reimage will be required to restore access.

  • Each server's IP address

  • Intended I/O configuration

Examples include the following:

  • VIOCG: 1 Out

  • VIO Stream and VIO Omni: locked at 1 in, 1 out

  • VIOLite and VIO2 server(s): 1 In / 1 Out

  • VIO4 server: 1 In / 3 Out

  • VIO4 server: 2 In / 2 Out

  • VIO4+: locked at 4 in, 4 out

Note on VIOLite

The VIOLite will behave based on the licensing it is commissioned with. This allows one unit to be either a VIOLite Player and Encoder, a VIOLite Omni, or a VIOLite CG unit. A VIOLite Player and Encoder and VIOLite Omni will have ports 1 and 2 active for playback and encoding. A VIOLite CG will only have a port turned on for playback per CG license purchased.

Non-Standard Video Server I/O Configuration

By choosing a non-standard Video I/O configuration, you are acknowledging there will be no encoding capability with the Video I/O card.

Examples include the following:

  • VIOLite and VIO2 server(s): 0 In / 2 Out

  • VIO4 server: 0 In / 4 Out

Know what your server output resolution will be. It is also helpful for the Cablecast team to know whether you will be using the same resolution on all channels or if this will differ.

  • Is there a video switcher in your configuration? If so, provide the make and model.

  • Will the video switcher be controlled by serial or IP? If using IP, be prepared to provide the IP address of the video switcher.

Remote Access & Support

When the Cablecast team provides the license and configuration of a Cablecast system, remote access is required. The Cablecast Support Tool, powered by RustDesk, is pre-installed on all new servers and provides secure remote access to Cablecast units.

For more information on the support tool, including how to find your Connection ID and password, see Cablecast Remote Support Tool.

Remote Support Alternatives

Security is important, and we understand that some organizations may not allow the Cablecast Support Tool. The Cablecast team will do our best to work with you on a compatible tool for the commission process.

Note

If you require alternatives to the Cablecast Support Tool for ongoing support after commissioning, you may need to consider a Platinum Support Package.

IT Blocks & Considerations

Begin working with your IT team early and often. Cablecast may require additional configuration on your network, especially if your station or entity has strict security protocols. Getting your IT team involved early ensures they understand the new system before it is installed on the network.

SSL

SSL adds an additional layer of security for Cablecast. Most IT and security organizations will want to enable SSL.

Cablecast Software Manual

Cablecast's software manual. This is included as part of the UI in Cablecast, as well, under "manual" in the left navigation pane.

Windows 11 Setup

All current Cablecast playback units ship with Windows 11. This will require a few steps when the unit is first powered on.

Cablecast Hardware Manuals

Understanding your Cablecast equipment is important. These hardware manuals will help you become more familiar with your current or existing system.
