Adding Reels to your Show Records
Reels are the building blocks of show records in Cablecast. Every show has at least one reel, and understanding how to create, edit, and organize them gives you precise control over how your content plays out on air.

Getting Started: Navigate to or Create a Show Record
Before managing reels, you need to be in a show record. You have two options:
Open an existing show by searching for it in the Shows section.
Create a new show by going to Shows in the left-hand menu, clicking New Show, and entering your metadata as usual. From there, you can work with the Reels section.
Understanding the Reel Section
Every show includes at least one reel by default. If a video file is already associated with a reel, you can click the edit (pencil) icon on that reel to open the Reel Editor, where you can:
Set in and out points to trim the file
Split the file into multiple reels

Trimming a Reel and Creating Additional Reels from a Single File
If you want to divide one video file into multiple segments, the Reel Editor makes this straightforward.
Click the pencil icon on the reel to open the Reel Editor.
Navigate to the point where you want the first reel to end. You can do this by:
Dragging the end handle in the reel timeline, or
Playing the file preview and scrubbing to the desired position.
Click the Mark Out button to set the out point for the first reel.
Navigate to where you want the second reel to begin.
Click the blue + New Reel button to create a new reel starting at that position.
Set the in and out points for the new reel as needed.
Click Save to confirm your changes.

You will now have two reels within the same show record. If you need to reorder them, simply drag and drop the reels into the desired sequence.

Adding a Reel from a Separate File
If you want to attach a different video file as an additional reel (for example, adding an intro, outro, or sponsor message), use the Add Reel button.

In the Reels section of the show record, click the gray Add Reel button.
In the Format dropdown, select Video Server — this is typically the correct format for a video file stored on your system.
Click Select File and search for the file you want to attach.
Once the file is linked, click Create in the Reel Editor to add it to the show.

Repeat this process for as many reels as you need.
Saving Your Changes
When you are finished editing your reels, click the blue Save button at the bottom of the show record page. Your reel configuration will not be preserved until you save.
