File Processing and Reindexing Workflows
File Indexing (Processing Stage)
As a asset (file) is finished uploading Cablecast's UI then discovers the asset. The processing stage can take 2-4 minutes depending upon the size of the file, and will generate the thumbnails and gather information of the file.
This stage shows with a gray bar: Processing.
This is an overview of what the system is doing in the background. The time it takes for each process to finish will depend on each individual file.
1. Upload and File Check
The file will show its process of upload with a blue bar across the bottom of the Assets page. While files are uploading please do not navigate away from this page.
Uploading and File Check
Asset Monitor discovers the asset. At this point it would appear in the UI. TIME: 0s
An Asset can show as Valid just before going into the indexing process
An Asset can show as Valid after uploading and before starting to index the file. Be sure to give the asset time to go through all of the stages before trying to Reindex.
2. Discovering Stage
The asset is discovered. This then starts the processing stage where the file will be indexed, creating thumbnails and generating media data/info for the asset.
Discovering
This could be delayed if there is a large amount of files, say during a system migration
3. Processing Stage (Indexing)
Asset shows as gray Processing. Media info is compiled for the asset.
Indexing
This step has the most variability due to caption searching in large files.
4. Validating Stage
Thumbnails are created.
Validating
Valid Assets Then have thumbnails created: Time 240s We do not create thumbnails for invalid assets
Once the asset has validated it will show with the orange Unlinked icon.
As a file is linked to a Show Record, it will show with the green Valid icon.
Reindexing
When updating an old file with a new one, we need to tell Cablecast that the file has been updated. To do this we reindex the asset.
The initial request when clicking the blue action button and choosing reindex can take upwards to 30 seconds to start the processing process.
This will be shown on the asset page as the file has the grey processing notification in the right corner of the asset. The actual processing will take the same amount of time the first indexing took, when the file was first added.
One file will process at a time, thus if you have several files to set for reindexing there will be a queue that is formed and each will be processed in the order that it was set.
The best practice is to wait after the first click of the action button for the asset to start processing and then you can move onto the next.
