Cablecast 7.4.16 Release

October 27, 2022

Release Date: October 26, 2022

Overview

Cablecast 7.4.16 fixes several issues related to Channel Branding / DSK issues related to Autopilot changes in 7.4. There are also several quality improvements to video server output for both SDI and Streaming. Finally, 7.4.16 includes numerous stability improvements and bug fixes.

See the release notes below for a full list of issues addressed.

  • CC-2748 SCC Caption Sidecar Files With Bad Timing Cause Video Server Instability
    • SCC files that had timestamps that did not align with the source video, commonly offset by one hour or more, would cause a video server to hang when the file was stopped. The hang behavior has been fixed.
  • CC-2906 Fix Crawls With Non ASCII Characters
    • Fixed an issue where Crawls with non-standard ASCII characters would be corrupted into invalid Unicode code points causing failure to load and display. This was most often observed when trying to display Spanish language content.
  • CC-2986 Digital Clock Bulletins Do Not Respect \n As New Line Character
    • Digital clocks can now use the \n character as a new line. Note that only \n is supported.
  • CC-3023 Schedule Batch Operations Can Fail If Multiple Schedule API Calls Are Sent In a Short Period Of Time
    • Optimized schedule API endpoints to avoid database concurrency issues when copy / pasting large amounts of schedule data.
  • CC-3100 Some Characters Are Unnecessary HTML encoded when captions are transcoded for VOD
    • Fixed an encoding issue when generating captions for VOD that would incorrectly encode some characters.
  • CC-3113 Video Server Engine May Restart When Starting and Stopping Network Encodes at Same Time
    • Fixed an issue where network encodes that stopped close to the start of a new network encode could cause a deadlock triggering a restart of the video server engine process.
  • CC-3130 Search Entire File For Closed Captions
    • Implemented full file closed caption detection for in-band closed caption data. The new caption detection routine accurately discovers supported closed captions in most files in a performant way.
  • CC-3141 Network Background Audio Streams Do Not Restart On Transient Failures
    • Implemented automatic retry of network background audio streams in CablecastCG.
  • CC-3230 Offline Enco Jobs Will Fail If Sidecar File Is Not Discovered
    • Improved the sidecar discovery routine for the EncoCCCM. Previously the CM would wait indefinitely until a sidecar file was discovered. This could cause caption processing to get stuck if the enCaption failed to process a file. The new routine will fail the job if the offline processing is not detected as in progress and no sidecar file is found.
  • CC-3239 Legacy DSK Can Load Incorrect Events Leading To No Channel Branding Being Displayed
    • Fixed an issue where the API endpoint used by the Legacy DSK on SX and Flex servers would load the previous autopilot send data, leading to incorrect calculations for on air channel branding.
  • CC-3261 CablecastMonitor Service Can Fail To Communicate With System Leading To System Instability
    • The CablecastMonitor service acts as a watchdog on the latest generation hardware, automatically triggering a restart of the server if there is an OS level hang.

If the service couldn't communicate with the motherboard, it could enter a retry loop, using up system resources until eventually, the system became unstable and restarted.

The service now correctly logs and exits if its not able to communicate with the system motherboard.
  • CC-3284 Improve Bug/Bug Text Quality
    • Resolved an alpha blending issue in the Cablecast Video Server engine that could lead to some overlay graphics appearing distorted.
  • CC-3305 Repeating Bulletins Triggering Too Much Or At Wrong Intervals
    • Fixed CablecastCG logic that determines when a repeating bulletin bulletin should be displayed. Previously channels with frequent updates, usually containing RSS feeds, could cause repeating bulletins to air too frequently in the bulletin cycle.
  • CC-3334 Cablecast UI Fails To Load At BEC
    • Fixed an issue where the Cablecast UI would fail to load on a multi-location system configured with feeders between locations. To our knowledge there is only one such station. You know who you are.
  • CC-3353 Cabledisplay Alert Bulletins Do Not Always Render At Correct Times
    • Fixed an issue where the API endpoint used by the Cable Display bulletins in CablecastCG and Carousel would load previous autopilot send data, leading to incorrect calculations for Cable Display bulletins.
