How to define what version of SMB to use when connecting to a SMB share from a MacOS Client

January 15, 2021

The protocol defined in the URL of your share will tell the MacOS what version of SMB to use.

If you define your path as cifs://YourServerAddress it will use SMB1

if you define your path as smb://YourServerAddress it will use SMB2/3

You may want to use SMB1 if you are experiencing troubles connecting from your MacOS Client to a Cablecast Flex Server running Windows 10.
