Carousel Backup Fails "Login failed for user 'IIS APPPOOL\Cablecast"
Symptoms
- Carousel will not back up correctly
- When trying to manually back up through frontdoor will produce the following error message

Login failed for user 'IIS APPPOOL\Cablecast
Resolution
Search for SQL Studio in Windows, right click and run as administrator.

Connect to the system

On the left hand side find the security folder and expand it until you get to the logins subfolder.

Right-click on logins and use "New Login"

You'll be greeted with a new user login window. For the login name add "IIS APPPOOL\Cablecast" (without quotes) to the login name field as seen in the picture below. Windows authenication should be selected by default.

Once that is done click on user mapping to bring up a new page

Check the Carousel box and select DB owner as seen in the window. Then click "OK" After this step you can close out of SQL Studio.

On the frontdoor page you should now be able to back up Carousel.


If you get an error go back to the previous steps and ensure the correct permissions are assigned for IIS APPPOOL\Cablecast for the carousel Database.
