Cablecast 7.2.8 Release

February 22, 2021

Release Date: Feb 17, 2021

7.2.8 addresses numerous stability and performance improvements for VIO and Flex servers. Plus many other improvements to Cablecast, the installer, and background housekeeping tasks.

All Release Notes:

  • CC-1777 Database Connection Errors When Sending Autopilot
    • Fixed a database error message that would display when trying to send autopilot. The error message indicated a failure to load certain SQL libraries that were inadvertently updated by other software on the Cablecast system. Cablecast now enforces that the correct libraries are loaded.
  • CC-2013 File Trimming Fails To Load Video
    • Fixed an issue where internal server config was inconsistently distributed among all servers in a Cablecast system. This could cause invalid URLs to be generated when trimming video files in the Cablecast UI.
  • CC-2014 Support For Ross Ultrix Series Routers
    • Cablecast includes a new UltrixRouterCM for control of Ross Ultrix Routers over IP using the Snell SW-P-08 ProBel protocol.
  • CC-2018 Digital Files Aren't Linked During Upgrade to 7.2
    • Fixed an issue with linking digital files to reels when first installing Cablecast 7.2.
  • CC-2036 Video Server Process Keeps Lock On Encoded File
    • Fixed several issues that would cause the Cablecast Video Server engine to not release its lock on an encoded file when finalizing an encode. This lock would keep the file in use and prevent Cablecast from processing the file for playback.
  • CC-2046 Automatically Rotate Sever Logs and Delete Temporary Files
    • The Cablecast background services automatically will clean up server logs generated by the Windows operating system. It will also periodically delete temporary windows files.
  • CC-2077 Delete unneeded files From cg-cache
    • Stale bulletins are now deleted from the Cablecast CG player cache.
  • CC-2083 VOD Caption Button Is Displayed Even If No Captions Are Present
    • Fixed an issue where empty WebVTT files were generated for VODs that had no captions present. This would cause the caption button to be displayed even though no captions would render.
  • CC-2090 File Trimming May Fail To Load Content Stored In Subdirectories or NAS Shares
    • Fixed URL generation for file trimming videos when content was stored in a sub directory such as E:\Content\ or network shares such as \\nasserver\\content\
  • CC-2095 Automatically Restart Latest Generation Servers If Operating System Hang Is Detected
    • VIO, Live-450 and VOD-450 models now enable a hardware watchdog that will automatically restart the system if an operating system hang is detected.
  • CC-2100 Support Encoding Analog Line 21 Captions On VIO Servers
    • VIO servers will now process line 21 captions on SD NTSC signals and internally convert them to digital closed captions. The digital closed captions will be present both on passthrough video output and on encoded files.
  • CC-2109 Shows With Only Network Source Files Fail To Transcode To VOD
    • Fixed an issue processing shows for VODs where the only source file was located on a network share.
  • CC-2111 Playback of SCC Files Does Not Render Captions On Live Stream
    • Fixed an issue with captions outputted from SCC sidecar files that would cause the captions to be dropped by Cablecast Live servers.
  • CC-2113 Encoder Issues Can Cause Large Memory Leak On Flex Servers
    • Fixed an issue where inability to encode or write to disk fast enough could lead to unconstrained memory growth, leading to stability issues and eventually crashes.
  • CC-2120 Some MOV Files Do Not Playback Correctly
    • Fixed parsing of some MOV files that were incorrectly parsed and would lead to playback failure.
  • CC-2129 Frequent Network Changed Events Cause Service Restarts
    • The Cablecast Device Control Service automatically monitors windows OS for network change events. Both the NetworkAvailabilityChanged event and the NetworkAddressChanged event are monitored. When a change is detected the service automatically restarts so it can re-establish network communications with other Cablecast servers.

It has been observed that in certain networks these events can fire for no known reason leading to frequent and problematic restarts.

This release allows a new configuration option to disable the automatic restart behavior, as well as better logging to help identify the cause of the change event.
  • CC-2130 Paused Encodes Get Stuck If Not Resumed Before Stopping
    • Fixed an issue where paused encodes would fail to end if not resumed before stopping.
  • CC-2131 Youtube Streams Remain In Standby If Started Before Stream Is Available
    • Resolved an issue where YouTube streams would not be re-processed during retries. This would cause streams that began scheduled playback before the stream was available to stay in standby for the duration of the event. The YouTube stream is now re-processed with every retry allowing the stream to start even if not available at scheduled air time.
  • CC-2132 PortSettings With Spaces Cause Web Server To Fail To Start
    • Fixed an issue where PortSettings with spaces would cause Cablecast to generate invalid configuration files for its internal web servers. This would cause the server to fail to start and lead to issues with file transfers and thumbnails.
  • CC-2135 Network Stream Encodes Can Show Previous Encode Thumbnails
    • Fixed an issue where thumbnails were not cleaned up after a network stream ended. This would cause the next encode to show the previous events thumbnails.
  • CC-2138 Transient Errors Can Freeze Channel Output
    • Fixed issues where transient errors caused by unexpected file locks or process stalls caused by antivirus could cause a channel of the video server to freeze.
  • CC-2156 Control Modules Servers Refuse To Accept Incoming Connections
    • Fixed an issue where a control module restart would not accept incoming connections. The failure would cause force matrix and autopilot failures.
  • CC-2159 File Transfers Fail After Uploading
    • Fixed several issues related to digital file uploads failing and resulting in 0kb files written to disk.
  • CC-2162 Starting New Network Encode Doesn't Stop Previous Network Encode
    • Starting a new network encode will now stop any encodes currently in progress.
