January 11, 2023

Release Date: January 11th, 2023

Overview

Cablecast 7.4.20 fixes a memory leak in the Cablecast Video Server engine for those using CablecastCG on VIO servers and is a recommended update at the earliest convenience. Additionally, several improvements were made to the Cablecast Closed Captioning system as well as other miscellaneous bug fixes. See full release notes for details.

See the release notes below for a full list of issues addressed.

  • CC-3263 Record Schedule Events Do Not Create Correct Stop Caption Events
    • Record Schedule Events with Live Captioning enabled would create start captioning and stop captioning events for the same time which could lead to unpredictable behavior. The events are now created for the correct times.
  • CC-3353 Cabledisplay Alert Bulletins Do Not Always Render At Correct Times
    • Fixed an issue where the API endpoint used by the Cable Display bulletins in CablecastCG and Carousel would load previous autopilot send data, leading to incorrect calculations for Cable Display bulletins.
  • CC-3439 Live Caption Transcription Will Now Automatically Stop After Twelve Hours
    • In order to prevent excessive usage when an operator forgets to stop caption transcribing during a forced or overridden event, Cablecast will now automatically stop transcription after twelve hours. This setting can be adjusted per system by contacting customer service.
  • CC-3458 Multipage Bulletins Do Not Display In Correct Order
    • Fixed an issue where bulletins with multiple pages, such as schedule bulletins, would render in an incorrect order.
  • CC-3464 Failed Transcription Jobs Can Sometimes Still Affect Billing
    • Fixed an issue where certain rare failures processing offline caption files could still effect billing.
  • CC-3475 Caption Manifest Missing End Of Stream Tag Effects Certain Players
    • Fixed an issue where the caption manifest was missing an end of stream tag. This would cause certain players, most notably Roku players, to wait indefinitely for the caption stream to end before closing the video player.
  • CC-3484 Invalid Autopilot Message Data Can Break Reports and Cause Ghost Channels
    • Fixed an issue where corrupt autopilot report data could cause failure for autopilot reports to load, and also invalid entries in the channels list that would go away after refreshing the web browser.
  • CC-3494 Drop TLS 1.1 support and only support TLS 1.2 and 1.3
    • Improve security defaults when use TLS / HTTPS by disabling TLS 1.1 support and only supporting TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3 connections.
  • CC-3500 Slow Leak In Video Server CG Playbacks Leads To Failed Playbacks and Eventual Crash
    • Fixed a leak in the CablecastCG background audio player that would slowly exhaust file resources, leading to failed playbacks and eventual crashes in the video server engine.
  • CC-3530 Encoder Thumbnails Don't Restart After Erroring
    • Fixed an issue where transient errors writing thumbnails, usually caused by anti-virus software, would prevent further thumbnails from being written to disk.
