Cablecast 7.4.12 Release

April 21, 2022

Release Date: April 20, 2022

Overview

Cablecast 7.4.12 is the fifth maintenance release of the 7.4 series. 7.4.12 resolves a regression in error handling logic in the Cablecast Video Server engine used by the VIO and Flex line of video servers. The regression would prevent SDI inputs and Network streams from properly handling signal loss and errors. This could lead to a wide range of different failure scenarios and therefore it is recommended that all customers update to 7.4.12 at their earliest convenience.

Additionally closed captioning continues to get lots of attention. We improved the stability of live transcription in Cablecast Closed Captioning as well as improved compatibility with invalid caption streams in order to do a best effort conversion internally.

See the release notes below for a full list of issues addressed.

  • CC-2951 Servers With Time Drift Greater Than 60 Seconds Can Not Initiate Live Caption Sessions
    • Fixed an issue where servers that were out of time sync by greater than 60 seconds would fail to initiate live stream sessions due to failed authentication. This limit has now been increased to 5 minutes.
  • CC-2970 Certain Repeating Bulletin Scenarios Could Cause CG Failures
    • Fixed an issue where certain repeating bulletin values across multiple bulletins would cause CG update failures leading to empty zones or complete channel failures during display.
  • CC-2981 Regression In Video Server Error Handling Retry
    • Fixed a regression introduced in 7.4.10 in the video server engine internal error handling for loss of signal. This could lead to a wide variety of errors in both SDI Input and Network stream use cases.
  • CC-2983 Files with Single Audio Channel Can Fail to Play
    • Fixed a race condition that would sometimes cause files with single audio channels to not properly select an audio track leading to file playback failures and video server engine restarts.
  • CC_2991 Uploaded VODs Fail To Transfer on Standalone VOD Systems
    • Fixed an issue where stand alone VOD units with no video server units would fail to transfer source files from internal storage during VOD transcoding.
  • CC-2996 HyperdeckCM Starts From Beginning of Clip When Playing
    • When a play command is issued to the BMDHyperdeckCM it will first seek to the start of the current clip.
  • CC-3002 Live Cablecast Closed Caption Transcription Can Lock Input
    • Fixed a race condition in the Cablecast Captioning Live Transcriber that could lead to a frozen audio stream causing downstream glitches in recordings or passthroughs.
  • CC-3006 Improve Handling of Caption Sources With Mismatched Caption Framerates
    • Improved caption handling of SDI inputs where the internal CDP frame rate does not match the video frame rate. Instead of discarding the captions entirely, a best effort conversion is made by stripping all caption padding and attempting conversion on the remaining data.
