Heres a rough timeline of events to expect for the Windows 10 upgrade procedure. If you're looking for information on how to get the upgrade, please see read the "Windows 10 Upgrade - Eligibility, Pricing and Timing" and/or email email@example.com.
Assuming your system is eligible for the upgrade, and you have active software assurance, you can begin the process to upgrade Windows 10.
Due to the nature of OEM Windows and factory settings, we cannot activate customer provided Windows 10 licensing.
- Purchase the Windows 10 upgrade from Cablecast.
This includes a USB installation media for each eligible server & Windows 10 licensing. We dont keep licensing on hand, so we purchase this from Microsoft on a case-by-case basis (Can take up to 3 weeks).
- Ensure your system is on proper versions.
Cablecast must be on Cablecast 6.6.1 or newer to move forward with the installation. If you are not on Cablecast 6.6.1, please email us on your ticket email requesting a OS Upgrade.
- Confirmation email sent upon "Upgrade Kit" mailing.
Once the upgrade package is mailed from our Minneapolis, MN office, you'll get a confirmation email with the tracking number and a booking URL. Transit time via USPS Priority is 2-3 business days.
- Schedule the upgrade.
You'll be provided with a booking URL with the confirmation email. You should find a time to schedule the upgrade with a support rep. Please keep in mind the upgrade is a long process and can take up to 2 hours per server being upgraded.
- Support will call you at your scheduled time.
Your system should be on Cablecast 6.6.1 before this happens.
- Preparing the system.
Support will perform some initial configuration to prepare the system for the OS Upgrade.
- Upgrading via USB drive
Support will request you insert the USB drive to initiate the upgrade to Windows 10 via boot menu. Do not perform this step without a Cablecast support rep. Moving forward without support assistance could result in your system breaking.
- Restoration of specific configuration files
We will assist with restoring some configurations that weren't retained between os'es.
- First time setup.
You'll be able to setup user information and computer host-name.
- Repeat for each server
- Activate windows.
- Apply Windows 10 Licensing COA Tag
It is important that you place the proper licensing key to each server as you license them. We recommend activating once system at a time and applying the sticker, or taking note of which server is activated on which licensing.
Once your upgrade is completed.
